SA Charlesworth

Bob Simpson gave me the heads up on a very rare SVW car going to auction tomorrow 24th June. Its a Charlesworth for full restoration at £4-8000k which is cheap. I've only seen one for sale and it was at £68k and there are only 2 in the UK of 5 known worldwide.

Check it out at Bicester Classic sale

Sold for £19,040 and with around £50k pro restoration will be £70k to break even. The new owner will have a wonderful car to use and show, great to see another on the road

Last minute reprieve

Well, we are still here.

It seems Ning have received many negative responses to their cancellation plans for the Ning mini site that they have 'rolled back' their decision to shut us down.

I'm not holding my breath, though as they seem to be hell bent on alienating most of the community networks at the expense of making a profit. For many of the pro sites, their fees have just doubled, so it seems a period of uncertainty.

The end of a good time

Well, thanks to all who responded to my message, I appreciate it. As to the site, well I'm sorry to say that despite looking at many workarounds, it seems that hosting a site costs far too much money for a group of this size.

I am looking at other ways of sharing SVW info and will hopefully get this up and running in the winter (Northern hemisphere), I have managed to save all of the photos you have posted, so that time hasn't been lost but even though I have saved all the forum…

That car, registration number EPH216, I understand is currently in The British Heritage Museum.

Sad death of David Washbourne

UK MOT - proposed exemption from Nov 2012 for pre 1960s vehicles

VA brakes

I thought I had a bit of an issue last year when the VA had its MOT.  I could see that the n/s rear brake was not up to scratch.  It still passed ok, but there was definitely some pulling on hard braking.

Having not used the car much over winter, I had to wait for some nice weather before getting the car out of the ridiculously small modern garage it's kept in to have a look.…

I do not have much history of my car. I have bought it from Barry Woolford in England near London, and he bought it from a scrapyard somewhere in UK in 1994. Barry has had all bodywork done by Mike Allison over the years till summer 2005, an he sold the car to me in december 2005. (His Wife did not like driving the car, and Barry meant, that it ws too noisy, which is not so peculiar, as it was fitted with only 1 silencer, from an MGC!). I have done the rest to the car incl. rebuilt the engine an new correct exhaust, so it now is in eccellent condition. I will mail You a picture soon.

just filled in the form. the car was donated to Bradford council by the police force to be used as a training car for young mechanics and was discovered by a friend who is a training manager for the council when the garage was cleared out.

I'm on a budget so the works will be going steadily, mainly using Peter Ratcliffe to secure parts but looking out for any second hand ones I can find

Hi Mike :

I just added my first photo with VA in Portugal , still with the UK plate ; I have to wait a couple of months to have the Portuguese plate
Anyway I started to drive it and it is really a pleasure to have such an old car ; I had some heating problems but now I think they are solved after some cleaning of the radiator
The hidraulic pump of the lifting system is out of order , but I will get fixed soon
I just feel disapointed as it seems the engine has not too much power ; when I get to some hill the car loose to much speed
To put 4 persons on the car is out of question , I feel the motor doesn`t have enough power
I have an Mga , which I know doesn`t have the weight of the VA , but the difference of speed is too much between them
Of course I will check if the engine should be repaired , but I want to know from a VA owner what is the impression of driving it
Do you think he is too slow ? CAn you drive yours with 4 persons with no problem ?

By the way and concerning this site , I think it is vital to keep it ; SVW cars are unique and it is very important to have a place where everybody can share ideas and problems
So I think that everybody can help with some reasonable payment per year
Any news about this problem ?
Please keep us updated , all your work to create this site should be supported by everybody , that is my opinion

Thanks for your reply. I have been an MG T type enthusiast for thirty five years and counting. My reason for joining is that I stumbled on to some T type and pre war MG parts awhile back, which I think are SA and VA parts. I was able to identify the T and TA parts but not the others. The parts are a gearbox that I think is for the SA, a complete front bumper with all of the mounting hardware. and a pair of SU down draft carburettors. The serial # of the gearbox is AA588 and it has a remote push rod shifter in the cover rather than a shifter extension. It is non synchro on 1st & 2nd and synchros on 3rd & 4th.

Refering to the SA & TA gearboxs in the blower manual they are similar other than some minor differences. This box has the longer tail shaft housing and it does not have the clutch bell housing. Is there a difference in the gear ratios between the SA and TA gears? My email is
